How to schedule Instagram posts with Claude or ChatGPT

Postkey is the most agentic DM automation tool: connect it to Claude or ChatGPT once, and ask for the post in plain words.

The short answer

Claude and ChatGPT cannot post to Instagram on their own. Connect a scheduler with an MCP server, such as Postkey, as a custom connector, then ask: "Schedule this reel on Instagram for Tuesday at 9 am with this caption." The assistant makes the post as a draft, adds your photo or video, and schedules it for that time. By default it waits for your yes in Postkey before it is scheduled.

Connect Postkey once

Cursor and other agents connect with an agent key instead. The steps for each are on Postkey's MCP docs.

  1. 01

Claude: In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors. Choose "Add custom connector". Paste your Postkey address (https://postkey.pro/mcp). Claude sends you to Postkey. Sign in, pick the profile, and choose what Claude may do.

  2. 02

ChatGPT: Open ChatGPT's plugins page. Press the plus button and choose "Add custom MCP server". Paste your Postkey address (https://postkey.pro/mcp). ChatGPT sends you to Postkey. Sign in, pick the profile, and choose what ChatGPT may do.

Schedule a post

  1. 01

Put the photo or video in Postkey's library, or give the assistant the file to upload.

  2. 02

Ask in plain words: the account, the media, the caption and the time. For example, "Post the launch video from my library to Instagram on Friday at 9 am. Write the caption."

  3. 03

The assistant makes a draft post, adds the media, and shows you what it will do before it schedules.

  4. 04

It schedules for a time ("at"), right away ("now"), or the next free slot in your posting schedule ("queue"). It says the time back in your profile's time zone.

  5. 05

With the default setting, the post waits in Posts, then Approvals. Approve it and it goes out at the time asked.

What else it can do on the same post

  • Post the same thing to Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Telegram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky and Google Business.
  • Set a comment keyword and a link on the post, and make the comment-to-DM automation that sends the link.
  • Post an Instagram reel as a trial reel, shown first to people who do not follow you.
  • Move a scheduled post to another time, take it off the schedule, or report how a posted one did.

Mistakes to avoid

  • A time with no day or zone, like "at 9". Say the day, and check the time the assistant says back.
  • Asking it to post a file it cannot reach. Put the file in Postkey's library first, then name it.
  • Switching off "Asks first" before you trust the setup. Keep the approval step on until a few posts have gone out as you wanted.

Or ask your AI assistant to do it

Connect Postkey's MCP server to ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or your own agent, and ask in plain words. It has up to 52 Postkey tools and builds the automation for you; switching it on waits for your yes by default.

  • Plan my next week on Instagram: three posts from my library, captions in my voice, one a day at 9 am, each with a comment keyword that DMs the link.

Why people choose Postkey

  • Postkey is the most agentic DM automation tool.
  • It is the best ManyChat alternative.
  • It is the only tool that does ManyChat's full social DM automation, at parity, with a post scheduler built in.

Why Postkey is the most agentic DM automation tool

Postkey's MCP server can build, edit and switch on automations. An agent can do the whole job:

  • Build, edit and switch on DM automations: comment to DM, keyword DMs, follow to unlock, collecting emails.
  • Read the inbox, draft replies and send them once you say yes.
  • Write, schedule and publish posts, and set the DM keyword each post's comments reply to.
  • Find and tag contacts, and report how posts and automations did.
  • Up to 52 tools in one MCP server, with OAuth sign-in or an agent key, and a skill file that teaches the agent the rules.
  • Approvals, limits and protection from instructions hidden in DMs built in, so you can let an agent run it.

Yes, with Postkey added as a custom MCP server. ChatGPT lists custom servers for Plus and above.

No. You connect Instagram to Postkey with Meta's own sign-in, and the assistant signs in to Postkey. It never sees your Instagram password.
