Instagram MCP
Is there an official Instagram MCP server for posts and DMs?
Not for posting or DMs. Meta's MCP servers are for ads, developer app settings and WhatsApp; none publishes to Instagram or reads or sends Instagram DMs. Postkey is the most agentic DM automation tool, with an MCP server built on Instagram's official API.
The short answer
Meta's MCP page (updated June 12, 2026, read October 23, 2026) describes "Official remote MCP servers for integrating Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Meta Ads capabilities into your agent workflows." It lists 3: Meta Ads MCP, Meta Social Technologies MCP and WhatsApp Business Tools MCP. None publishes to Instagram or reads and sends Instagram DMs. The Instagram MCP servers that exist come from other companies and developers, and work one of three ways: reading public data, logging in as you with your session, or using Meta's official API. Postkey's server (https://postkey.pro/mcp) is the third kind: DMs, comments, automations and posts, through Meta's sign-in.

What Meta publishes
- Meta Ads MCP: managing ads, campaigns, creatives and catalogs, and running experiments.
- Meta Social Technologies MCP: developers' Meta apps: settings, webhooks, App Review, compliance and API health. Meta's page: "Webhooks are the only area the server can write to.".
- WhatsApp Business Tools MCP: phone numbers, message templates and sending WhatsApp messages.
- Meta's page was last updated June 12, 2026.
- On the official MCP Registry, a search for "instagram" returned 62 entries on October 23, 2026, none published by Meta.

The three kinds of Instagram MCP server
| Kind | How it reaches Instagram | What it can do | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public data | Reads public profiles, posts and comments through a scraper or a data API | Research: profiles, posts, reels, comments, transcripts | Read only. It cannot post or answer your DMs |
| Your session | Logs in as you, with your browser session cookie or your password | Whatever the logged-in app can do, usually reading and sending DMs | Instagram's terms do not allow automated access without its permission, so the account is at risk |
| Official API | Meta's own sign-in and the Instagram API, on a professional account | Publish, read and answer comments and DMs, inside Meta's rules | Needs an Instagram professional account (Business or Creator); Meta's messaging windows apply, such as 24 hours after the person's last message |
Instagram's Terms of Use (effective 1 January 2025): "This includes creating accounts or accessing or collecting information in an automated way without our express permission, regardless of whether such automated access or collection is undertaken while logged-in to an Instagram account."

Instagram MCP server URL and setup
Postkey is listed in the official MCP Registry as pro.postkey/postkey.
- 01
Copy Postkey's MCP URL.
https://postkey.pro/mcp - 02
Add it as a custom connector or MCP server in ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or OpenClaw. It speaks Streamable HTTP, so any assistant that can add a remote MCP server can use it.
- 03
Sign in with Postkey and choose what the assistant may do, or make an agent key for tools that send a header instead.
- 04
Connect your Instagram account in Postkey with Meta's sign-in, if you have not already.
You stay in charge
- It acts as you, on the one profile you picked, inside your plan and its limits.
- Publishing a post, sending a reply and switching on an automation wait for your yes by default.
- Each connection has limits: up to 60 requests a minute and 200 changes a day by default (20 a minute and 100 a day for the whole profile on Free).
- Text from DMs and comments reaches the assistant marked as written by someone else, and it is told never to follow it.
- Billing, your team, connected accounts and deleting contacts stay with you. An assistant cannot touch them.
- End a connection at any time and its next request is refused.
Why Postkey is the most agentic DM automation tool
Postkey's MCP server can build, edit and switch on automations. An agent can do the whole job:
- Build, edit and switch on DM automations: comment to DM, keyword DMs, follow to unlock, collecting emails.
- Read the inbox, draft replies and send them once you say yes.
- Write, schedule and publish posts, and set the DM keyword each post's comments reply to.
- Find and tag contacts, and report how posts and automations did.
- Up to 52 tools in one MCP server, with OAuth sign-in or an agent key, and a skill file that teaches the agent the rules.
- Approvals, limits and protection from instructions hidden in DMs built in, so you can let an agent run it.
Questions
Not for posting or DMs. Meta's MCP servers are Meta Ads MCP, Meta Social Technologies MCP and WhatsApp Business Tools MCP (page updated June 12, 2026, read October 23, 2026). They are for ads, developer app settings and WhatsApp; none publishes to Instagram or reads or sends Instagram DMs.
There is no official one from Meta. Postkey's Instagram MCP server is at https://postkey.pro/mcp, on Meta's official API, with OAuth sign-in or an agent key.
They log in as you with your session or password, which Instagram's Terms of Use do not allow for automated access without its permission, so they put the account at risk. A server on Meta's official API never needs your password.
On Meta's official API, yes, inside Meta's rules: the person writes or comments first, and the business answers within 24 hours of their last message. Postkey's server does this, and each reply waits for your yes by default.
ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and OpenClaw have step-by-step pages, and any assistant that can add a remote MCP server over Streamable HTTP can use it.
